Bin Cat Strikes Back
The internet and news channels have been full of the story of Mary Bale a stressed British bank worker who thought it would be funny to put a cat in a wheelie bin.
There has been a torrent of ill-will towards her and even death threats after video of the incident was broadcast almost everywhere. The cat was thankfully rescued after being trapped for 15 hours. I guess she will think twice about causing distress to another animal.
I know the animal was distressed but cats are pretty resilient and I like to think that maybe it has learned to keep away from strangers.
On a lighter note, I found this video on YouTube today…
I think my own cat Babe seems wise enough to keep away from strangers now, she disappears whenever we have visitors. If only she would learn to stop trying to get into small spaces, she often has to be rescued from behind furniture.

Getting My Attention
I’ve been trying to work on my computer today but the cats have had other ideas.
Stole has been visiting me at regular intervals through the day sitting between me and the monitor and every so often she reaches up with a paw to touch me. It really is so sweet but a little bit annoying too. Sometimes she just wants stroking but usually she is begging for food.
Now, at last, Stole is sleeping but Danny Mittens has decided he wants some attention. He is laying with his head on the mouse mat so that when I have to use the mouse he gets his head stroked at the same time. Multi-tasking made easy.
A left-handed photo so not one of my best…

I’ve been outside with my camera this morning. Babe Cattykins and Danny Mittens have been enjoying the sunshine.
Only trouble is my sister’s dog arrived, he’s here for the day. Danny doesn’t mind him, they were kittens together, or is that puppies?
Babe doen’t trust dogs though and she keeps her distance.

Check out the Google Translate for Animals
Making the world’s information universally accessible is a key goal for Google. Language is one of our biggest challenges so we have targeted our efforts on removing language barriers between the species. We are excited to introduce Translate for Animals, an Android application which we hope will allow us to better understand our animal friends. We’ve always been a pet-friendly company at Google, and we hope that Translate for Animals encourages greater interaction and understanding between animal and human.
Translate for Animals is an application for Android phones that recognises and transcribes words and phrases that are common to a species, like cats for example. To develop Translate for Animals, we worked closely with many of the world’s top language synthesis teams, and with leaders in the field of animal cognitive linguistics, including senior fellows at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.
A great addition to the April Fools Day tradition.
